Skelaxin Drug interactions and overdose instructions

As with the dose, you should always follow the instructions given by your doctor or pharmacist. This means making an honest disclosure of all the other drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamin and diet supplements, etc. you are taking. Because skelaxin works on the central nervous system to relax you, do not mix it with any other drugs (including alcohol) having the same effect, e.g. drugs to control anxiety, antidepressants, sleeping pills, narcotic pain killers, cold and allergy medications, etc.

What other health issues may affect skelaxin?

It’s increasingly common to find people with allergies so always tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have adverse reactions to any food, preservatives, pollens, molds or other chemicals found in the everyday environment. Adjustments will have to be made if you are older, or have anemia, liver or kidney disease. There are also issues to discuss if you are pregnant, are planning to start a family, or a breast-feeding a baby.

What should you do if you miss a dose?

If you do forget to take a tablet, do not attempt to catch up by taking two tablets close together or actually doubling the dose at the regular time. The aim is to maintain a steady concentration of the drug in your blood stream. Producing spikes and troughs does not give you the pain relief you are looking for.

What if you do take an overdose?

There is no need to double the dose to catch up a missed pill. An overdose should not occur. If you do take too much, this can produce a dangerous slowdown in breathing and extreme drowsiness. If untreated, a coma may result and a few deaths have been reported.
